Indian musical genius Mr. A .R. Rahman after recieving the world’s highest acadmic award OSCAR for his music in SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE made india proud again .Rahman is now invited by the The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
to be its voting member.The Academy, which also gives the Oscar awards, issued invitations to ‘artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.’What this means is that if he accepts the offer, Rahman will be among the members who decide the Academy Award in the Best Music category, as well the Best Motion Picture category.
According to NDTV movies this year 134 invitations have been sent out as opposed to 166 that are sent every year. The reason given is that ‘several branch committees endorsed fewer candidates than were proposed to them.’
“These filmmakers have, over the course of their careers, captured the imagination of audiences around the world,” said Academy President Sid Ganis. “It’s this kind of talent and creativity that make up the Academy, and I welcome each of them to our ranks.”
This news is also cleared on the official website of A R Rahman.On the official website of Rahman they added the Academy’s membership would have allowed a maximum of 166 new members in 2009, but as in the previous years, the several branch committees endorsed fewer candidates than were proposed to them.
